Potential Venues for 2023 ICC World Cup

BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has taken a significant action in line with hosting the prestigious ICC men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 by shortlisting 15 potential venues across the country. The tournament will mark the return of the prestigious competition to India for the first time since 2011.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that the exact schedule for the 2023 edition will be unveiled on June 7th, 2023, coinciding with the commencement of the World Test Championship final between India and Australia at the Oval.

The shortlisted venues comprise Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Mumbai, and Trivandrum. Additionally, Pune and Nagpur are being considered as possible locations for hosting matches during the competition.

While the BCCI is yet to finalize the list of venues, it is expected to be shared with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the near future.
The 2023 World Cup is scheduled to commence on October 5th and will run for a span of 46 days, culminating on November 19th. During this period, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing a total of 48 matches, including three knockout games towards the end.

The league matches of the tournament will be held across ten different venues, with two additional warm-up games anticipated to be played at two venues as well.

An interesting trend to observe in the previous three editions of the 50-over ICC Cricket World Cup is the triumph of the home teams. The 2019 edition saw England, the host nation, engage in an intense battle against New Zealand in the final, eventually emerging as the champions.

Similarly, in 2015, Australia clinched the title on their home soil, defeating New Zealand in a thrilling contest. However, it is the 2011 edition that remains etched in the memory of every Indian cricket fan.

The Indian cricket team, fondly known as the “men in blue,” ended a 28-year drought by securing a historic victory on their home turf at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
